quimby

DEFINITIONS

Quimby: Phineas Parkhurst Quimby (1802–1866) attended lectures on mesmerism in 1838 and came to believe that the mind was the source of all illness and the mind could cure all illness. His teachings heavily influenced Mary Baker Eddy, founder of Christian Science. As the interest in spiritualism faded, his various teachings, under the name of “New Thought,” became popular. This was a source for some concepts in the modern New Age movement.
