Visualization Power

Visualization is an extraordinarily powerful instrument. In focusing our psychological and psychic powers and drawing on the untapped potential of the unconscious, we are dealing with forces that in some ways seem almost magical. One writer on visualization, Robert Hezzelwood, speaks of the "wizard within":

Distracting the attention of the conscious mind, or focusing it on the desired result, combined with some form of inductive relaxation, opens the doors to the transmitting capabilities of the psyche. When the transmitter has been ‘warmed up,’ one can then implant the suggestion or image on the transmitted waves; if the transmitter is strong enough it will affect what we normally consider objective reality.

Paul Ellsworth learned visualization techniques early in life and continued to practice them over the years until he became quite proficient. The more skilled he became, the more spectacular were his successes with visualization. One such success came about during a crisis in Ellsworth’s professional life.

Ellsworth worked as a writer for a trade journal, and liked his job. A managing editor unjustly suspected that Ellsworth was after his job. The manager made things as difficult as possible for him. Finally he had Ellsworth fired.

Ellsworth went home and devoted all his energies to a visualization exercise he hoped would help him out of his problems. First, he read metaphysical books and devoted much conscious thought to his professional, personal and psychic potential. When he felt ready, he relaxed for the next 10 to 15 minutes and focused on a mental image of himself as prosperous and successful.
